Manuela R. Martinez, 80, of Windsor, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Medical Center of the Rockies. She was born December 23, 1931 in Artesia, New Mexico to Ernesto and Mercedes (Gomez) Reyes.
On November 3, 1951, she married David Martinez, Sr. in Ballinger, Texas. Manuela grew up and attended schools in the Ballinger area and lived there until September 1967 when she, David and their children migrated to the Longmont area. They lived there for 1 year then moved to Windsor.
Manuela was devoted to her husband for 42 years. She enjoyed watching her boys and grandchildren play softball as well as making her famous burritos for the team. She was also known for her delicious tamales. She loved Mexican novelas, Tejano music and “cheeseburgers without cheese”. Manuela helped raise all her grandchildren. She was the backbone of the Martinez family who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a member of the Virgen de San Juan Shrine in San Juan, Texas.
Manuela is survived by three daughters, Nellie Ramirez (Robert); Estella Martinez, Sylvia Ybarra (Ralph), seven sons David R. Jr. (Shirley); Daniel R. (Senorina); Arturo R. (Gracie); Adam R, Reynaldo R. (Teresa); Jesse R. (Jackie); Eddie J. (Tania) all from the surrounding area and one sister Olivia Pena of San Antonio, Texas.
She was blessed with 25 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Sr., son Eddie Michael; granddaughter Brianna J. Ybarra and her parents.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 5 immediately followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Windsor. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
