Gertrude Moore

Gertrude Brooks Moore, formerly of Greenville, SC, passed away on May 11, 2013 at the Asbury Care Center in the Aldersgate Methodist Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. Gertrude was born on October 9, 1923, the youngest daughter of Vester Lindsey and John W. Brooks in Easley, SC. She worked at Meyers Arnold department store where she met her husband Machen Tidence Moore, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1981.Mrs. Moore enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and was a fabulous cook. She loved working crossword puzzles even through her years battling Alzheimer's. She was a member of Northgate Baptist Church. Gertrude is survived by her son, Machen Ty Moore, III of Columbia, SC; her daughter, Kathy M. Alexander, and son-in-law, Al Alexander of Charlotte, NC. Gertrude delighted in the lives of her grandchildren Polly, Hugh, Jack, and Bo Alexander; Leigh Anne, Lindsay, and Jonathan Moore; great granddaughter Kaylie Moore; and nieces Mary Shull Valenti and Rebecca Ferguson Martin. She was predeceased by her sister, Frances Brooks Ferguson; brother, Lindsey Brooks; and grandson Machen Moore, IV. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC, 29609 at 11:00, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. The family will receive friends following the service at Woodlawn Funeral Home. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Aldersgate Methodist Retirement Community's 2013 Mother's Day Offering, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC, 28215.
