Mr. Nguyen was born August 9, 1932 in Nghe An, North Vietnam. He joined United Nations Peace Corps and moved to South Vietnam in 1954. He met and married Ms. Huong Tran in 1956. While working, he pursued his education to earn a high school diploma in early 1960 and further completed his formal education at the National Institute of Administration of the Republic of Vietnam in 1969. He worked as a manager of the Department of Taxation of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) until 1975, when he left Vietnam at the end of the Vietnam War.
Settling in Hampton, Virginia in early 1976, he began to find ways to bring his wife and five children to the U.S. through the sponsorship of the High Commission of Refugees and United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; and thanks to his tireless efforts, he reunited with his family in 1983. He earned a college degree from Thomas Nelson Community College and subsequently worked for Mercedez Benz Company in Newport News until his retirement in 1990s.
Mr. Nguyen always encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue higher education. He loved poetry, literature, and music. During his pastime, he enjoyed playing the mandolin. He also enjoyed traveling and helping others. He had a special love for God and the Virgin Mary Mother of God throughout his life until death. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
