
Dave was born in Springfield, MA and grew up in Holyoke, MA and Greensboro, VT. After graduation from Holyoke High School, he was accepted into the Army Reserve Officer Training Program (ROTC) at his beloved Norwich University in Northfield, VT https:/online.norwich.edu, graduating with a degree in Business Administration 1959. Thus began his 23 year career in the Quartermaster Corps, providing logistical support for the U.S.Army on many deployments. He served two tours of duty in Germany, one tour in Korea, and two tours in Viet Nam (in 1969 and 1972) and numerous stateside posts. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, four Meritorious Service Medals, and the Army Commendation Medal. He wrote the Quartermaster after action report for the Army at the end of the Viet Nam War, which is now stored at the Fort Lee Quartermaster Museum in Petersburg, VA. Dave retired from the U.S.Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1983. Dave, following his career path, went to work for Henrico County School District , in Henrico VA, as a Supply Operation Manager before retiring in 2008, after 25 years of service.
As a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, he was thrilled to see his team win the World Series Championship in 2004, particularly enjoying their sweep of the New York Yankees in the playoffs. Dave was never shy about talking and making friends with other people. If you sat next to him at a ball game he would draw you in with his in-depth knowledge of the history of baseball and his love of the game. He was a fervent patriot who loved his country and valued integrity above all.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of fifty years, Helen; brother Donald ; loving daughter Valyre and her husband Noli; five sons and their wives/partners: Glenn and Elizabeth, Scott and Malia, James (Jim) and Tracy, William (Bill) and Anya, Christopher (Chris) and Yvonne;
16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, their siblings and children.
In lieu of flowers,the family requests donations be made to Norwich University.
