

Born on March 28, 1932, in Elysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Clem and Nellie (Saweikis) Yurkiewicz. He grew up on the family farm and graduated in 1950 from Ralpho Township High School, where he was a member of the soccer and baseball teams.
Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served honorably during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the 80th Fighter Squadron, known as the “Headhunters.”
Following his military service, Stan built a long career at the New Cumberland Army Depot—now the Defense Distribution Center—until his retirement.
Stanley was a devoted member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. He was also a proud graduate of Penn State University and an avid follower of both the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football teams.
He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick, and step great-granddaughter, Myrlis. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Kathleen Witten (Richard) of York Haven, PA; son, Thomas of Camp Hill, PA; stepdaughter, Deborah Hinckley of Mendon, Ohio; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Jennifer Hose (Charles), Elizabeth Witten, Sophia York, Danielle Hinckley, and Donald Hinckley (Elizabeth) and step great-grandchildren, Isabella, Keegan, and Willow Hose, Colton, Presley, and Harper Hinckley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg on Wednesday, July 30, at 2 pm. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Thursday, July 31, with a 12:15 arrival for a 12:30 service.
