Raymonde Francoise Burnett, age 98, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Sunday February 16, 2020. She was born on May 12, 1921 in Colombe, France, the youngest of seven kids to Paul and Marie Herment.
Orphaned at a very young age, Raymonde grew up with relatives and in the Catholic faith. Without their parents, the Herment children were very close, helping to take care of one another and Raymonde was especially close with her three older sisters, Simone, Suzanne, and Genevieve. When WWII came to France, she met Prentice Burnett, a U.S. Army soldier. In 1946, she came to the United States and they were married in Hutchinson, West Virginia on August 9, 1946. The young couple had three children, two of which predeceased, after her only son Alan was born in 1947.
Living in the United States, Raymonde went to school to learn to be a manicurist and received her cosmetology license. Being the strong and independent woman she was, Raymonde raised her son as a single mother for many years working as a manicurist. She took great pride in her employment and enjoyed working at Bullocks Department store in Los Angeles with many celebrity clients. Raymonde became a U.S. citizen on November 11, 1954. She enjoyed travelling to Hawaii and Las Vegas with her friend Claudia, back to her home country in France; and taking cruises with her closest friends.
After her retirement, Raymonde moved from the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas, Nevada and enjoyed a quiet life, keeping in touch with her family in France, and her three grandchildren and lifelong friends. She was a generous person who loved dining out and a good glass of wine.
Raymonde was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Bernard, Roger, Simone, and Jacques, Suzanne, Genevieve, and two children. She is survived by her son, Alan Burnett of California; three grandchildren: Nicole Faulkner of Minnesota, Lyle Burnett of South Dakota, and Martina Burnett of South Dakota; and many nieces, nephews and extended family in France.
Raymonde will be laid to rest
