

Mrs. Alma M. (Schmidt) Adams, 91, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 in Porter, Texas after a brief illness. She was born to Harry E. and Myrtle B. (Tudor) Schmidt on Dec. 17, 1922 in Richmond, Texas.
During WWII Alma joined the war effort as an original “Rosie the Riveter” assembling B24 bombers in San Francisco, CA. While there she met and married her beloved husband of 46 years, John J. Adams, Sr. in 1946. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, John and Alma moved to Houston to work and raise their family. Alma was active in the Allen Elementary School P.T.A, serving as its President in 1961/62.
In 1965 they moved the family to Trinity, Texas to take over operation of the AAA, and later, Adams restaurant which became a favorite of East Texas diners in the late sixties and early seventies.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband John and two brothers, Hilmer C. (Smitty) and Roy Schmidt.
She is survived by: sons John J. Adams, Jr. and wife Teresa of Kingwood; Charles William Adams and wife Natalia of Conroe; daughters Alma Jeanette Mote and husband Danny of Daffau, Betty Godfrey of Trinity and 2 brothers, Harry Hardy Schmidt of Palestine, and Theodore H. (Sony) Schmidt of Houston; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grand children.
Visitation will be held at Earthman’s Rest Haven Funeral Home, 13102 N. Fwy. Houston from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 24th. Funeral Services for Alma will be held Friday, April 25, at 9 a.m. at Earthman’s with burial at 10 a.m. in the Houston National Cemetery.
Pallbearers: John J. Adams, Jr., Charles W. Adams, Patrick Adams, Danny Mote, Samuel Robinson and Harold Schmidt.
Honorary pall bearers: John J. Adams, III and William C. Adams
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shaman’s Therapeutic Center in Trinity, Texas.
