Doris Schoelman passed away peacefully on August 30, 2020 at Colonial Oaks at First Colony Nursing Home at the age of 94. She was just two weeks shy of turning 95. She lived a great life usually surrounded by her 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary every day. She lived her life with grace and style and will be dearly missed.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Janie Schoelman; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Schoelman; and her sister-in-law, Gloria Spear. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph Spear and Lydia Spear; and her brothers, James Spear and Joe Spear, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Bill Schoelman; her daughters Dianne Hyde, Connie Poole, and Helen Schoelman; along with her son, Kurt Schoelman; and her granddaughter Tonya Carola. She was survived by her grandsons Matt Lyons, William Thompson, Jacob Carola, C.J. Broyles, Ricky Schoelman, and Billy Schoelman; and granddaughters Melissa Lyons, Deanna Harrelson, Amanda Stout, Christy Jones Bartelt, Chrissy Martin, and Liddy Schoelman; along with 16 great-grandchildren which she loved to hold when they were infants.
Doris was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on September 14, 1925 to Joseph Spear and Lydia Lilian Barousse. She graduated from Loyola University School of Medical Technology and worked as a medical technician and also as a nurse’s aide. She married Walter William Schoelman, Jr. soon after, moved to Houston, Texas and together they raised their five children.
Most of her life she was a housewife and a devoted mother. Following her divorce in 1983, she became a travel agent and traveled the world of which she thoroughly enjoyed. She finally retired some 20 years later and lived out the rest of her life in Missouri City, Texas. May Doris rest in peace and may we all know that she is now reunited with her loved ones.
