Vince was born in Fort Smith Arkansas on October 22, 1935, and passed away on July 7, 2019. He is preceded in death by his father, Vincent Sloan (Doc) Hefley, mother Emma Hefley and mother in law Janet Moore. Vince is survived by his wife Marian Moore Hefley of 26 years, sister Beverly Harmon, and her husband Ron from Charlottesville, VA, father in law Jimmie Moore, his first wife Lavonia Hefley and their four children, Terry Richardson (Tommy) 5 children and 7 grandchildren, Tracy Hefley (Gloria) 1 daughter, Thane Hefley (Sharon) 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren and Theron (Kim) 4 children. Also survived by nephew’s Roger Smith and Mark Smith from Richmond and Dallas respectively. Marian’s six siblings along with their spouses – the in laws, outlaws, nieces, nephews and extended Moore family.
Vince graduated from Port Lavaca High School and attended Baylor University. He later graduated from University of Corpus Christi with the class of 1966. Like his father he was a 32nd degree Mason, York Rite and Shrine. Vince followed his Dad into the oilfield business with Tuboscope but eventually landed in Public Relations. He became Director of Public Relations at Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi for 10 years prior to starting his own Public Relations business.
Vince had a lifelong love of motorcycles beginning with his first motorcycle at the age of 14 until his last one at 80-years old. A few of his favorite trips include Pacific Coast Highway, Canada, Norway, Sturgis, Daytona, Tail of the Dragon, Sedona, Big Bend and many more. He was a member of the World’s Toughest Riders, and he completed the Iron Butt Association Saddle Sore 1000 and 2000 mile endurance rides. He often found a way to blend his love of American and military history with motorcycle riding, and when not on the bike you could often find him enjoying museums or the latest biography. He took a special trip to the Paper Clip museum with an all Jewish motorcycle team. They rode across locations in the U.S. to raise money for the Tennessee school whose mission was to collect 6,000,000 paper clips as a commemoration to the loss of Jewish life in World War II.
Vince was cofounder of the Christus Nun Run motorcycle rally raising money for Christus Healthcare Clinics now in its 15 year. Each year the “Vince Award” is given in recognition of outstanding contribution and support of the event. Vince has always been active in the community serving with Kiwanis, Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, Corpus Christi Executive Club and the Friday Morning Group. He volunteered 6 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital serving as Auxiliary President, and he volunteered 10 years at Houston Methodist Hospital where he was Volunteer of the Year and President of the Auxiliary. He also served as Vice President of the Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers Board.
