Joyce "Joice" Ann Monteith, 84, of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of East Hartford, CT, died peacefully on November 6, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Monteith with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Joice was born in Mars Hill, Maine, daughter of the late Kathryn Brown and Hadley Perkins. Prior to her retirement, Joice was the owner of Heather Branch, a card and gift shop in East Hartford, CT. In her active retirement years, she was a volunteer at the CARES Elfers Center in New Port Richey and was secretary to the board of directors of the Sunnybrook Condominium Association. Joice, along with her husband, enjoyed traveling and made 36 trips between the U.S. and Australia to spend time with her daughter and her family in Australia, and her son and his family in Connecticut. She was devoted to her family and found much joy in the time she shared with her grandchildren as she was an integral part of their childhoods. She also cherished her relationships with her lifelong friends. Joice will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew her. She is survived by her son, Shawn Monteith and his wife Christina Monteith, of Burlington, CT; her sister, Dorothy Billings, of Punta Gorda, FL; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Joice is predeceased by her daughter, Penny Jo Alexandre. The family would like to thank her nurse, Bridget, and the staff at Orchard Ridge for keeping a smile on her face and Joanne Olsen Morse who was such a good friend and help to Joice’s family. The service and entombment will be held at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, at the privacy of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
