Linda passed away at Baptist Hospital Sunday, May 15 following a short illness. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Born Oct. 16, 1942 in Birmingham, Alabama, Linda was the daughter of John (Mid) and Helen (Louise) Moss. She attended Enoch Junior High and Central High School in Jackson. Linda married the love of her life Clyde Finch in 1958, and for 21 years she followed him wherever his Air Force career led them.
In the early years of marriage, Linda was a full-time mother. When Clyde retired from the Air Force, they made their home in Jackson and worked for Hinds County. She was employed for 18 years with the Hinds County Tax Collector’s Office. It was there that she met her lifelong best friend Pat Glenn and they have now been reunited in Heaven. Linda and Clyde retired to become full-time grandparents when their only grandchild John Thomas was born. Spending time with him brought them more joy than they ever imagined.
Everyone who knew Linda understood that that family was the most important part of her life. She lived by the motto “family is not an important thing, it’s everything.” Clyde fondly called Linda “dear,” and her favorite phrase was “yes, dear.”
Her fondest memories since childhood were annual family vacations to Ft. Walton Beach and Destin. Linda enjoyed a beach trip this past October with family. Many wonderful memories were made with her parents, husband, brothers, sisters-in-laws, children, grandson, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clyde Marion Finch; her parents and her brother Bill Moss and sister-in-law Pansy Moss of Sunnyvale, Calif.
She is survived by her son, Clyde Michael "Mike" Finch (Cathy) of Brandon; daughter, Susan Finch Newhouse (John) of Belize; grandson, John Thomas Bruckner of Brandon; brother, Tommy Moss (Linda Jo) of Brandon: David Moss (Angie) of Madison; sister-in-law Ceceilia Finch of Jackson, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of their choice.
