Dad....last few months I've been focusing on the better times with you remembering the sailing trips to the Bahamas and Florida Keys.  The logic talks we would have in the evening eating  cheese and crackers, soda and coconut pie baked with ants.  You trusted me to man the Kalea by myself while making the crossing from the coast of Florida to Grand Bahama Island.  You'd set a course and I would keep it steady till you were ready to take over.
I miss you so much....even tho the last month of your life were a little rocky with us getting along.  I'm glad you were able to squeeze my hand at the very end and knowing you were not alone you went to be with the Lord.  You fought a tough battle Daddy.  It hurt to see you struggle.  I'm glad you trusted me to come and help with you and Connie.

Pop, 
I know we didn't get to hang out or talk as much as we would have liked, but I already miss you. I'm always going to remember how your eyes were as blue and stormy as the ocean you loved so much, and how red they got when you got angry, making you look kinda like a big mean bull. I'll remember your voice, I always found it's booming depth comforting. It's even more so now. I'll remember how you wheezed a little bit whenever you laughed, and how your grin was was so wide and goofy, making you seem younger than you were. I remember that one time when I was little and being mean to my Mom, telling her she couldn't spank me because she couldn't even get up, and you very calmly but solemnly said I can. And from that point on I don't think I ever misbehaved around you again. We didn't talk much, mostly because plane tickets aren't cheap, and because you and I both hate talking on the phone, but I have nothing but love, respect, and admiration for you. I like to think I got most of my personality from you and Mom, I know I got your love of animals at the very least. Give Memere and Connie a hug for me when you find them. And tell all the doggies and kitties I think of them too. Especially Tochee.

Love you pops wish I could been able spend time with you.  

Remembering Pop
Meeting him for the first time during our wedding preparations, I was immediately impressed with his stern countenance but also (after discussion) with his apparent broad knowledge of computer programming, physics, chemistry, basically all the same things that I most enjoy.
Not one who likes small talk, but could be surprisingly engaging and helpful with solving a practical problem.  I very much enjoyed hearing about some of the adventures in his laboratory at IBM back in the "golden days" of basic research. Made me wish I could have been there.
Living hundreds of miles apart, our visits were always special as he would go out of his way to make them memorable occasions, like planning an outing for us to go to the zoo or to the beach, and he'd even take video and pictures to help us remember these shared times. 
But the time I probably most enjoyed was that spent discussing technology, computers, programming and reminiscing. I'm only sorry we didn't have more time to spend together.
