Bonnie Louise Kelley passed away unexpectedly at her home on the morning of October 28, 2018 in the company of her youngest son. She is survived by her two brothers Adrian Breting and John Breting; her two sons, Shawn Kelley and Nathan Kelley; and, her grandson, Will Kelley.
Bonnie Kelley was born to mother Miriam Breting and father Adrian Breting in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 16, 1942. Throughout her life, she struggled with allergies and asthma, but never let them dampen her artistic activities, which were the core of her existence. Her artistic interests led her to Ball State University where she earned a teaching degree in elementary education, specializing in art. Bonnie met John Kelley during this time, whom she dated and married, staying in Indianapolis to teach elementary art, and supporting John while he finished his engineering degrees.
Their first son, Shawn Kelley, was born in Indianapolis, and upon John’s graduation, the family moved to Houston, Texas where they started a new life in the south. Five years later, their second son, Nathan Kelley, was born. Bonnie raised her two sons while living in Houston as John went to work at Shell Chemical Co. When the boys were old enough to go away to college, Bonnie returned to teaching art at Bunker Hill Elementary. Upon her retirement, she spent more time with her hobbies of gardening, arts and crafts, and volunteering, in local schools and at Lifepath Church, and visiting her grandson in Minnesota. Bonnie lost John in 2017 to a heart attack.
Bonnie appreciated her many friends at Lifepath Church and from her years of elementary school teaching and volunteering. She will be missed by her friends and family, who mourn her sudden passing. We love you daughter, sister, mother, mentor, teacher and friend, Bonnie Kelley! May you rest in peace.
The Memorial Service for Bonnie Kelley will be at Lifepath Church on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. The address is 17703 W. Little York Rd. Houston, TX 77084.
