Paulo Silverio Nery, 83, passed away on Saturday, March 16th. He leaves behind his wife, Marianne (Glianna) Nery; his two sons, Paulo José Nery and Gregory Nery; his daughter, Mara Nery-Hurwit; his brother, Hugo Nery; three grandchildren; and many close friends.
Paulo was born in Manaus, Brazil, and lived in many places across South America, the United States, and the Caribbean. Earning a scholarship to study in America, he graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1960 and worked as a chemical engineer for over 50 years, falling in love with his adopted country. He and Marianne settled in Katy, Texas almost 30 years ago, where he worked for Jacobs Engineering for 24 years before retiring in 2014.
Paulo had a deep love for traveling, dogs, spending time with friends, and above all, his family. A man who loved road trips, he drove to all four corners of the United States and many points in between. A lover of history and a voracious reader, Paulo could rarely be found without a book nearby, devouring stories of faraway lands and the history of man. Always able to converse on a myriad of topics, from Greek philosophy to the stock markets, and from the conquests of Charlemagne to World Cup soccer, he could connect with anyone in no fewer than five languages.
A kind and brilliant man, Paulo will be missed by all those who knew him.
