Teresa Ann “Terry” Miller was born on December 15, 1950 in Pittsburg, Texas to Joseph Calvin Taft and Lovelene Birdsong Taft. She passed peacefully the evening of September 13, 2017 at home in Houston with family and friends at her side following a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. Terry was a compassionate, caring and selfless mother, wife and friend and she will be missed immeasurably. Terry spent her early years on the family farm outside Pittsburg in East Texas. The family moved into Pittsburg in the early 1960’s where she attended school, graduating from Pittsburg High School in 1969. Following a year at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Terry moved to Houston where she began working in the banking industry. She met the love of her life, Ken, in Houston in May of 1976 and they were married at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, on April 23, 1977. Their only son, Greg, was born on October 1, 1982 and he was the joy of her life from that time on. When Greg was born, Terry became a full time mother and homemaker, later working part time as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and Sales Director for more than 25 years. She also worked in women’s fashion retailing (Talbots) for a number of years. Her outgoing and friendly personality made her a natural and successful sales woman. She finally retired from her Mary Kay career in 2016 after being diagnosed with cancer. Terry and Ken resided in Houston throughout their 40+ years of marriage, enjoying wonderful travel adventures throughout the U.S. as well as Europe and the United Kingdom. Her favorites were Colorado, New England, Italy, the Danube River cruise and Ireland. Terry and Ken made their last trips in September and October of 2016 to the Canadian Rockies, Scotland and England. She made lifelong friends in college, while playing in the Jackrabbit Tennis League in NW Houston, and during the last ten years playing Mahjong and Pokeno with her Gleannloch Farms neighbors. Terry is survived by her soulmate, Ken, and her loving son, Greg, of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her brother Larry Taft and wife Linda of Longview, Texas and sister Paula Bowker of Gladewater, Texas plus numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Taft, in 1988. Terry's mother, Lovelene Taft, died on September 23, 2017 at her home in Longview, Texas at the age of 90. A memorial service for Terry will be held on Saturday October 7, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Windwood Presbyterian Church, 10555 Spring Cypress Road, Houston, Texas 77070. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts in her name to the Cancer Research Institute (www.cancerresearch.org) or MD Anderson Cancer Moon Shots (www.mdanderson.org/cancermoonshots.html). A brief reception at the church will follow the service.
