Robert Miclash November 2, 1932 - December 27, 2020
In the early hours of December 27th, 2020 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Bob Miclash peacefully passed away. Mick lived his entire life in Kenora and never wanted to live anywhere else. He was born in 1932 to Frank and Anne (nee Gornicki) Miclash at the family home on 5th Street North. He attended Mount Carmel School and then Lakewood High School. Mick was always sports minded. He coached and played baseball, basketball, curled and golfed. He watched almost any sport on television and faithfully read the sports’ pages of the newspaper. He fondly remembered his teenage years being part of the ‘Wildcats’, and then playing ball for the Legion team. Growing up in a very large family, in order to have money, Mick had jobs delivering newspapers, delivering bread and finally landing the best job in the world in 1951, working at the paper mill. He married Pauline Leroux daughter of Paul and Stella (nee Long) Leroux in 1953. Along with their daughter Rhonda, they moved into a new house on Drewry Drive in 1957 and he took pride in his yard and garden especially his tomatoes. He retired from the paper mill with over 40 years of service. Pauline passed away in February 1994. That spring Mick and his brother George took a trip to Mesa Arizona to enjoy the sun and do some golfing. From then on, Mick and his partner Harriet Blake spent the next 25 winters in Mesa. Mick finally sold the house on Drewry Drive and he and Harriet moved into Grandview Villa. He missed his garden and yard but he enjoyed the social activities within the building and its closeness to the golf course. Mick was a man of routine right up to his last day. He went for his daily walk around town, took his newspaper and coffee up to the lounge, and enjoyed a glass of red wine before dinner.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Pauline, his parents and in-laws, and nine brothers and sisters (Ralph, Albert, Leonard (Butch), Ted, Eleanor, Francis, Adeline, Agnes and Gladys. He is survived by his partner Harriet, his daughter Rhonda (Al Glofcheski), Harriet’s sons Don (Karen) and David and their families, his brother George and sisters-in-law Florence Miclash and June Cormylo (Harvey) along with being Uncle Sonny to many nieces and nephews.
We are thankful for the ambulance personnel and the O.P.P., the emergency ward staff and the doctors in Intensive care. We are lucky to have such caring and competent people working in our hospital.

So sorry to hear about Uncle Sonny's passing. My condolences to Harriet, Rhonda and Al. Judging by all the memories he was certainly loved and respected by everyone.
I mostly remember him in his younger days when Sharon and I carried water for our uncles playing baseball at Central Park. He was always so nice to us and so much fun and would usually come over to our house after the game.

I knew Bob from an early age because of my love of baseball and watching him play for a decade. When pony league baseball came to an end I joined the Legion fastball team at 16 years of age. We had a team of veterans and five or six teenagers. For several years Bob was a most wonderful mentor. He was a very fine man for whom I had great respect. Please except my sincere condolences.

Rhonda and Family .. I am so sorry to learn of your Dads passing. I first met Bob when I started at the paper mill many years ago. He was always so upbeat - positive - a very nice person. I had the pleasure of running into him a few months ago -- he still looked the same as he did many years ago -- we had a great talk. Again - I am truly sorry for your loss.
