The Life Story of a True Matriarch June 29, 1926 - September 12, 2020
Hamas Panossian-Avaness was born in Charmahal, Iran on June 29, 1926 to Der Vagharshag and Dirouhi Zmrout Panossian.
She met and married Sookias Avaness on December 21, 1944. They lived in Abadan until Sookias retired from the National Iranian Oil Company in 1969; then they moved to Tehran, Iran. In 1975, they immigrated to America to be with their children and lived in both Glendale, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Hamas was a strong and loving matriarch. Hamas had an eclectic taste in music and was a dancer at heart. When she was not dancing or singing, she was reciting poetry. Her house was a place where everyone felt welcomed.
One of five siblings, she is survived by two younger brothers: Partev and Jirair; four children: Olga, Elma, Ara, and Silva; eight grandchildren; and seven great-¬grandchildren.
