Rosemary Wooden

Rosemary is survived by her beloved and devoted husband, Lawrence F. Wooden; her children, Lisa Calice, Lawrence T. Wooden, and Anne (Michael) Elias; her grandchildren, Vlady (Lauren) Calice, Lina Calice, Olena Calice, and Mollie Hulbert; great grandchildren, Audrey Calice and Eleanor Calice; her siblings, William (Cindi) Melnik, Margaret Woodward, and Barbara (David) Carson.

Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, William and Rose (Kren)Melnik; her brother, James Melnik; and her great grandson Owen Calice.

Rosemary loved her family, especially her husband Lawrence, to whom she was married for 60 years. Together they raised three children and their grandchildren. They spent many happy years enjoying summers at the lake, playing badminton, canoeing and sailing; along with trips up north to places that were special to them. She was the most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother anyone could have wished for.

Rosemary really loved nature, delighted in watching birds. She enjoyed every variety of flowers and loved gardening. She enjoyed craft, sewing and needlework projects of all kinds; giving tours at the botanical gardens; reading; traveling; and playing cards with her card club. Rosemary volunteered her time making and sending cheerful cards to parishioners that were ill, and helping at funeral luncheons at St. Collette Parish. She was always one to assist with any charitable cause.

The oldest of five children, Rosemary loved her brothers and sisters, along with her many nieces and nephews. She looked forward to any family gathering and never missed sending a card for a birthday or special occasion. She was known for sending cards with words of encouragement and prayers.

Rosemary had a gift for seeing the good in others, and for bringing people together. She had something nice to say about everyone. She seemed to know just the thing to say for any given circumstance. No visitor ever left her home without a kind word, a great story and a full belly; dessert included. She had a great sense of humor and was known for telling and laughing at her own jokes.

Rosemary loved being a grandmother. She patiently doted on her grandchildren; attending all their school functions; dance performances, going on adventures, and preparing their favorite meals and treats. One of her proudest achievements was sending her grandson to Catholic Central High School and personally seeing to it that he graduated.

Although she lost her struggle with Alzheimer’s, those of us whom she loved will long remember her huge heart, her warm smile, her kindness and her delicious cooking and baking. Her chicken soup, birthday cakes and holiday cookies were legendary.

Rosemary will forever be dearly loved and missed, and never forgotten. She will be constantly in our prayers as we have always been in hers.
