Adaline Brown

Adaline P. Distl Brown, 86, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a short illness. She was born October 28, 1922, in Mansfield, the ninth of ten children of Joseph and Philippine Distl. She was a 1941 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and attended Mansfield Business College. She had a love of art and won an amateur art contest as a teenager. Adaline was employed at Westinghouse Electric Corp. during WWII, helping to produce world class binoculars for the United States Army. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and long time member of the Mansfield Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary. Adaline was a member of Amvets Post#26, V.F.W. Post #9943, Mansfield Liederkranz and the Sons of Herman. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and also attended Mass with her family at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Adaline enjoyed baking and delighted her family with her famous Christmas cookies.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Kurtz; son, James R. Brown; grandson, Andy Heather Kurtz; granddaughter, Amy Bill Nagel; great-grandchildren, Kolten, Kayla and Keely Kurtz and Jonathan and Elizabeth Nagel; brother-in-law, Thomas Patricia Brown; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph J. Brown in March 2004; daughter-in-law, Marie Brown; parents; brothers, Joe, Fred Dan, Hil, Hank; and sisters, Helen Welch and Ann Armstrong; a brother and sister who died in infancy; a special nephew, Joe Distl, Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Terry Philpott officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
