
John Luther Herold John, known by friends and family as “Jack”, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2026. He was born in Covington, Kentucky, on January 19, 1928, to Henry and Violet Herold. He was raised in northern Kentucky. He was precede in death by his parents, Violet and Henry Herold, his wife, Virginia (Jennie) Herold {if true}, a younger brother, Alan, and an infant daughter. He enlisted in the Navy at age 18 and when he returned home, he entered the University of Cincinnati where he met his future wife. He became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He received his B.A. degree in 1952, entered the College of Law and graduated in 1954 with a Juries Doctorate degree. Jennie and Jack were married in Cincinnati in 1952. His professional career included the FBI as a Special Agent, Assistant City Attorney in Columbus, Ohio, and 27 years as a Home Office Representative with Prudential Insurance Company. He was a quiet, gentle man with a dry sense of humor who especially liked puns. He centered his life on home and family and was proud to take care of their needs. He was a loving and patient care-giver to his wife in the later years of their life together. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in September. He is survived by his wife Virginia L Herold, son, Philip Herold, two daughters, Kimberly Sandland, and Jennifer Herold, all of whom reside in North Carolina and three grandchildren, Eyrie Sandland, Ashlyn Herold, and Captain Matthew L. Herold, USAF. At his request, there will be no memorial services. His cremains will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
