Joan Sparks, 72, of Memphis, TN, passed away June 25, 2020. She was born to the late Shannon Williams and Billie Pike Williams on July 23, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee. Joan graduated from Messick High School and received her Cosmetology license from Enris Beauty School in 1977.
Joan is survived by her two sons: David Sparks, of Mattoon, IL and Tommy Sparks of Portland, OR. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Christopher, Alysa, Stephanie and Hayli and her longtime caretaker Melanie Creak. Joan was predeceased by her loving partner Charlotte Chambers in 2001.
Joan was an accomplished cosmetology educator, teaching and touching lives for over 30 years. In 1978 Joan became an educator in her chosen field of cosmetology, which was her lifelong passion. She followed her teaching passion and became the co-owner of Plaza Beauty School with her life partner Charlie Chambers, where she touched so many lives.
Joan was immensely proud of her family, loved times with family and friends and having her puppies around. She leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
The memorial ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st at The Memphis Funeral Home with a visitation at 1 p.m. The family requests that people make donations to OutMemphis in lieu of flowers.
