
KATHRYN LLOYD DIED ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2015 at her Town Village Audubon Apartment. She was born, Kathryn McLaughlin, in Meriden Connecticut, on May 27, 1952. The daughter of Charles R. and Helen T. McLaughlin, both deceased, Kathryn attended St. Joseph School, Meriden, and Mercy High School in Middletown, Ct. Her College career began in Marietta College, Ohio, where she majored in Chemistry, continuing with post-graduate studies at the University of Connecticut., Storrs, she met her future husband, Dr. Roger V. Lloyd, a post-doctoral researcher. Kathryn and Roger were married on Oct. 16, 1976, after which the couple moved to Memphis Tn. Dr. Lloyd was a professor of Chemistry and researcher at University of Memphis, and Kathryn followed her passion for Art. She enrolled in the Fine Arts program at the University of Memphis, eventually completing an MFA. She was an enthusiastic and dedicated artist who expressed her talent primarily in sculpture, pottery and, in later years, in glass.
In 1992, when a medical emergency caused her kidneys to fail, Kathryn received a transplant kidney. Over the years she passionately promoted organ donation. In 2007, Dr. Roger Lloyd died, and Kathryn lost her closest companion and friend. Fortunately, she was blessed with many dear and devoted friends in the University community, among the Artists, and at Holy Rosary Parish. She continued expressing herself in art, but she also served as past president and finance officer of the Ladies of Charity. Kathryn dearly loved serving the less fortunate in many ways, financially and through volunteer work. She found a whole new community of friends at Town Village Audubon.
Kathryn is survived by three brothers: Fr. Richard C. McLaughlin of Portland, Maine; Thomas F. McLaughlin and his wife Sue, of Waterbury Ct; and Lawrence McLaughlin and his wife Jill, of East Greenwich, R.I. Kathryn had a niece and nephew, Alexandra and Michael McLaughlin, and numerous Aunts Uncles and cousins.
Kathryn will be well remembered at a Wake Service at Town Village on Wednesday (Oct 14) from 2-4PM, Ladies of Charity friends will also remember her as they prepare the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen on Friday Oct 16 and Sat Oct 17. The Ladies of Charity will have a Rosary, Mass and a day of recollection for Kathy on Wed, Oct 21. Additionally as Holy Rosary Parish will have a memorial Mass Oct 22 for all friends and parishioners.
