

Catherine Butera, 98, passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2018 in Pensacola, FL. The eldest of 3 children, she was born in Athens, Greece and raised in New York City where her parents owned and operated a tailor shop in the 1920’s. She later worked in the Empire State Building as a secretary before marrying and moving to Massachusetts with her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother who loved to dance, sing and visit with friends. She enjoyed cooking for her family and warmly welcomed friends to share a meal in her home. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, spirited humor and deep faith. She was a devoted member of Greenwoods Community Church in Ashley Falls, MA and later recalled her time spent in the Berkshires as “the happiest days of her life.” In her later years, she moved to FL where she and her husband became active members of the First Christian Church of Pensacola. She was preceded in death by Charles Butera, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her brother Anthony Countouris, two daughters June Butera-Pouliot and Christine Castonguay, two grand-daughters Debra Lathrop and Cathy Iacono, 14 great-grandchilden and many more loving friends and family members. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the First Christian Church, 6031 Goodrich Drive, Pensacola, FL at 11:00 am on Friday, October 19, 2018. In honor of her legacy, she would wish others to extend a forgiveness or special act of kindness to someone in need.
