Doris was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a chemistry graduate at Hampton Institute/University. After having taught math and science in Norfolk for 2 years, she went to Europe to teach for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS).Her first DODDS assignment was in Baumholder, Germany at the high school, where she taught for 2 years. From there Doris taught at high schools in Paris 1 year & Orleans for almost 7 years. She and Norman were married in September 1963 and from that year all transfers were together. SY 1967/1968 was spent at the high school in Kenitra, Morocco. SYs ’68-70 taught in Lakenheath, England. Sys 70- 76 were spent in Zweibrucken, Germany, during which time Doris became a counselor for juniors and seniors. SYs 1976- 1995 were spent counseling (for Doris) Grades K-8th at Vicenza and Verona schools in Italy. At the end of the 1995 school year, Doris & Norman retired to Fort Myers, Florida. Doris enjoyed travelling, fine foods & wines, reading and socializing. She will be sadly missed by her ex-students and husband.
Doris had one sibling, a sister who preceded her in death in 1962. She had no children, one surviving nephew and 4 cousins.
