

Dr. Peter David Hoden, 75, of The Pavilion at Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Florida, beloved husband of Lynne (Hallstrom) Hoden went home to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior on January 3, 2018. Peter was born on March l, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island to Helen and John Hoden. They lived in Seekonk, Massachusetts where he attended Seekonk public schools and graduated from East Providence High School in 1960. Peter graduated with a B.S. degree in 1964 from North Park College and received his M.D. degree from the University of Vermont in 1970. He was an Ob-Gyn intern at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and completed his residency program at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. He then began a long and successful career in his beloved specialty at Waterbury Hospital where he delivered over 3500 babies and was known for his thoughtful and kind professionalism. His private practice provided him great opportunity to be with his family and serve in the church he loved. He was a lifelong member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Christian Medical and Dental Society and the Evangelical Covenant Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, board and committee member and church chairman. He tutored immigrants in English, eventually chairing the local chapter of Literacy Volunteers and served with Prison Ministries International. All who knew him appreciated his constancy in living a life of faithfulness, compassion and generosity. In 1958, Peter met his wife at high school church camp in Cromwell, CT. They married on July 3, 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They raised a son and twin daughters in Cheshire, CT enjoying a love for travel, downhill skiing, bicycling, along with camping, gardening, sailing and summering on Lake Swanzey in New Hampshire. In addition to his wife of 52 years Lynne, he is survived by three children: Jonathan (Dawn) Hoden of Swanzey, NH, Kirsten (Kyle) Arney of Winfield, IL and Sonja (Charles) Gifford of Longmont, CO, six grandchildren: Carl Peter and Julia Anne Hoden, Felicia Ruth and Gideon Oscar Arney, and Claire Ann and Helen Grace Gifford and one brother, J. Paul Hoden of Ft. Myers, Florida. No service is planned at this time.
