Gary was born on the 12th of March 1942 in Red Oak Iowa, he was raised by his parents Darrell and Rachel Merk.
Gary was married August 24, 1962 to Joyce Fader, they were married for 57 years until Joyce’s passing on October 9th, 2020. Throughout his life Gary got to travel the world and see many places. He often spoke of them and could recall just about any place in great detail. He loved history and served his country proudly in the US Army.
Gary was recently wed to Judy (Feickert) Fader, starting a new chapter of his life. He moved to Black River Falls, WI and was able to start traveling and living life to the fullest. He had many adventures with Judy like visiting North Dakota and more recently out west to see family. Gary loved musicals, movies and enjoyed the company of family, friends and his beloved dog Olive.
He loved his family dearly and made a point to visit them all this past year.
Gary is survived by his wife Judy Fader and his children Gary Fader, Philip (Shelby) Fader, Patricia (Robert) Smith, Scott (Sarah) Fader, step children Steve (Heather) Roberts and Jennifer (Don Theisen) Roberts, his grandchildren Amanda (Ryan) Piszczek, Danny (Danielle Sellner) Fader, Kylie, Megan, Jordan, and Diego Fader, Elizabeth Lohr and Dennis Smith; Great Grandchildren Alessandra, Jayden, Brooke, Savannah, Addie, Daniel and Braylon; along with siblings Virginia (Wayne) Good, Marian Merk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Rachel (Darrell) Merk, his late wife Joyce Fader, siblings Walter Fader and Luann Axtell and brother-in-law Robert Axtell.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials either be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of Michigan or the Michigan Humane Society. Gary supported both of these charities regularly."
