Lannie Denton Mitchell

Lannie Denton Mitchell, 74, of Yukon, Oklahoma passed away April 4, 2019 in Oklahoma City. He was born, February 1, 1945, in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Herman Denton Mitchell and Arline Laverne Freeze-Mitchell. After he was born, they moved from Mountain View, Oklahoma to Oklahoma City. He was the oldest of 8 children. Lannie graduated Southeast High School in 1963. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves on August 29, 1965. Lannie married Carolyn Townsen, July 15, 1967 in Oklahoma City. He joined the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1968 and served for 31 years, and 14 years as a K9 officer.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn; his parents, Arline and Herman; and his brother, Dana Mitchell.

Lannie is survived by his son, Bradly Mitchell; daughter, Lesa Szczepaniak and husband Dennis; grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Herrell; brothers, Lyndell Mitchell and wife Jane of Moore, Kevin Mitchell and wife Lydia of Oklahoma City, Bryan Mitchell and wife Jennifer of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Cheryl Dubuc of Norman Oklahoma, Sharon Shelton and husband John of Oklahoma City, Kelly Baker and husband Randy of Yukon. Lannie also leave behind 6 nephews and 11 nieces and many more family and friends to honor his memory.

Services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City, 3600 N.W. Expressway at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2019, and will be officiated by Pastor Marvin Henschel, followed by an interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens 8701 N.W. Expressway. Afterwards, a family dinner will be served at Messiah Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Oklahoma City FOP. Lannie’s favorite thing became receiving blessings.
