Martha Aguayo Sanchez was born on Jan. 19, 1925 in Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the youngest of four children. As a child in Zacoalco, she loved to play among the cypress and pepper trees.
Upon moving to the United States, Martha was a field worker in the San Joaquin Valley. She married Francisco Embernate and had 2 sons, Frank Jr. and Robert. In 1958 after searching for a friendly, family oriented community, they moved to Upland California with its vast citrus groves. In 1959, finding herself a single mother, Martha began her career at San Antonio Community Hospital which would span 30 years. In 1965 she met and married Jesus (Jesse) Arriaga Sanchez and that same year, they bought the family home at 317 N. Campus, Upland. They were happily married until Jesse passed away in 2011.
Martha loved to knit, sew, do her own canning and was famous for her three (3) types of tamales. Martha was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Upland since 1959. She loved her Lord Jesus and was dedicated to prayer daily.
Martha is survived by two sons, Frank Embernate, Jr. and Robert Embernate, 2 cherished granddaughters, Balicium Embernate and Naomi Embernate, a beloved great-grandson, Shane, as well as many extended family members and loving friends.
The family of Martha Aguayo Sanchez would like to thank everyone at Plotts Nursing Home, VITAS Hospice and San Antonio Community Hospital for their excellent care and support.
Martha’s last wishes to her loved ones were, “be loving, be kind, be respectful to each other and make good memories.”
