
Earl enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, meditation, and reading the bible and spiritual texts. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, resilience, quick wit, generosity, and fierce love of family and friends. Earl’s had a unique ability to connect, inspire and motivate excellence in strangers and friends alike.
Earl was born in New York, New York and was the son of Louis Rawlins Sr. and Josephine Hunter Rawlins. A veteran of the United States Army, he received his JD from Brooklyn Law School while working as a New York City Police Officer. Earl’s career spanned many years in both the public and private sectors. He served as Commissioner of Relocation in New York City. He was a licensed private investigator and polygrapher, and established a private investigation and security firm, EAR-PI. An excellent litigator, Earl dedicated many years to the service of others as a criminal defense attorney in the New York state court system.
After retiring and relocating to Florida, Earl continued to use his skills as an attorney, educator, and mentor of young people. Through his volunteer work at Kissimmee teen court, he inspired young people, often setting them on the right path toward adulthood.
Earl was an active member of the Living Water Fellowship Church in Kissimmee, Florida where he participated in the Men in Christ group. Earl also enjoyed Parkview bible study classes. He was a brother of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a past president of the New York Reveille Club.
Earl is survived by his wife, Joan, four daughters (Joette, Lolly, Kim, and Robin), nine grandchildren (Kristian, Lauren, Alexander, Bryant, Samantha, Chelsea, David, Raphael, and Cameron), and 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Earl’s life will be held in the spring of 2020.
