Sandoro "Sandy" E. D'Ignazio

He was born on February 26th, 1946, at Bryn Mawr Hospital. The third son of the late Sandoro and Mary (DiPrinzio) D’Ignazio. He was too ill with pneumonia to be taken to church to be baptized, so the late Reverend Antonio Schliabba came to their house and anointed him. Reverend Schliabba was too sick to go upstairs into their house, so they brought him downstairs and he baptized Sandy in their living room. Sandy lived in the home on Morris Road in Wayne his entire life.

Sandy grew up in a very happy, busy and fun-loving household. Even though his father passed away at a very young age, our mother stepped in and took over being both mother and father. She raised them with strong family values and hard work. She used to say, “You’ll never have anything unless you work for it”. Sandy and his brothers owe her a lot.

Sandy grew up attending the Radnor School system, from grades 1-12. Our Lady of the Assumption did not have a school at the time.

At the age of 17, he started working for the late Rose and Angelo Rossi at ANRO Printing in Devon. His first meeting and interview with Rose, was her telling him, “Are you a D’Ignazio from Wayne?” he replied, “Yes, I am.” And she replied, “You look just like them, come with me”. He was stuffing envelopes and doing other office duties within five minutes time. Sandy continued to work at ANRO for 39 years.

He was drafted into the Army and served a two-year period, sixteen months of the time was in the Republic of Vietnam where he ran the personnel office for the 46th engineer battalion in Long Binh City. After his stent with the service, he returned home and returned to ANRO to work.

Sandy’s hobbies are working in his garden, entertaining family & friends. He is a member of the Wayne Italian American Club, American Legion Post 668, former Vice President of the Berwyn-Devon Business & Professional Association, Wayne Business Association, member of Main Line Chamber of Commerce, IL Circolo Italiano of the Main Line Inc. and the newly formed order Sons of Italy, St. Anthony of Padua Lodge 2801, former member of the Pastoral Counsel at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Sandy was the brother of the late Ralph F. D’Ignazio and H. James (Muggy) D’Ignazio. He is survived by six nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He is also cousin to the DiPrinzio and D’Ignazio families, along with many good friends.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 30th at 11:00am at OLA Church (35 Old Eagle School Road, Strafford, PA). A Viewing will be held from 9:00am to 11:00am Saturday morning in the Sacred Heart Chapel of OLA Church. Burial will follow at St. Monica Cemetery in Berwyn.
