Delores Lorenz was born on February 28th, 1929 in Springfield, Nebraska to Chris and Nellie Lorenz. She was baptized and confirmed in the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gretna and remained a member throughout her life.
She attended Sanborn Country School near the farm where she grew up. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1946. Upon graduation, she took a job with Mutual of Omaha.
On October 1st, 1950, she married Allen Kreifels. Together they were blessed with 6 children. She worked alongside Allen and his brother, Orville, at Kreifels Hatchery, while being a housewife and volunteering for numerous organizations.
She was very active in the community. She was a member of Legion Auxiliary Post #143 for 65 years, served on the Alumni Board for over 70 years, was a member of the Springfield Booster Club, and the Women’s Club.
She volunteered her time at the Veteran’s Home for 20+ years, was a Patient Escort at Midlands Hospital for over 30 years, and served on the Election Board for 30 years. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for all 3 boys and was heavily involved in the 4-H program, being a leader as well as the Food and
Clothing Superintendent for the Sarpy County Fair.
In her spare time, Delores enjoyed her painting-by-number pictures and crafting with her club friends. But, her true love was embroidering. She made many gifts such as bedspreads, baby quilts, baby bibs, and tea towels that are treasured keepsakes for those who received them.
While volunteering, working part-time at the Hatchery, and raising their children, she also found time to be with friends in groups such as Women’s Club, The Town and Country Extension Club (aka The Silly Society), and supported her children in their extracurricular school activities.
Allen and Delores welcomed many people into their home when they needed a place to stay – whether it was for a few days or a few months.
During their retirement years, Allen and Delores loved to spend their winters in Edinburg, TX. They made many friends from Canada and other parts of the U.S., as well as entertaining anyone who came to visit.
Delores was very proud of her family. She loved how all their children are somehow deeply involved in their community, churches, and schools and with their families.
