Bondy Thornton

Visitation will be held at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home Friday May 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 30th at 11:00 am, also at Baldwin-Lee, followed by a short graveside service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.

Bondy was born on September 10, 1936 to Lizzie Viney and Pascal Mangum Thornton of Raleigh, Mississippi. In his earlier life, he loved to do woodwork and share his talents with family and friends. Bondy was a proud Marine, and he loved to tell his stories about his Marine career- if you didn’t have all day to listen, don’t ask. He was a heavy equipment operator by trade; that was another day of listening. He was a member of Robinhood Baptist Church in Brandon. Bondy loved to tell stories and make everyone laugh!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzie Viney and Pascal Mangum Thornton of Raleigh; daughter, Tammy Glyn Thornton (Baby Sug) Bynum of Brandon; great granddaughter, Ella Dean Thompson of Pearl; brothers, Lennis Thornton of Brandon, Joe (Bee) Thornton of Brandon and Lester (Bud) Thornton of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Alyne (Doodle) Clark of Raleigh, Ava D (Daughter) Robinson of Raleigh and Lenna Brewer of Raleigh; and step son, Tommy Lee Jones of Byram.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wilmaette Thornton; stepsons, Ritchie Martin and wife Susan and Larry Jones and wife Tera; granddaughter, Hannah Martin (Tyrone Davis); grandsons, Cory Jones, Jody Jones, Russell Thompson, Justin Thompson and Austin Bynum; great granddaughter, Kennedy Jones; great grandsons, Beau Thompson, Trevor Ashmore and Avery Ashmore; as well as many friends and family and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband, and treasured his time with family and friends! He will be greatly missed by all.
