She was born in Natrona, Illinois on April 30, 1923. Pat was the daughter of Arvil VanNattan and Velma (Evans) VanNattan Knapp. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by brothers Virgil and Harold, and sister, Janet.
Pat is survived by daughter, Peggie Powers (John); son Robert (Carmel); brother, Terry; six beloved grandchildren; five charming great-grandchildren, and a number of special nephews and nieces.
In October, 1941 Pat married the love of her life, Harlan “Woody” Underwood. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 70 years, until Woody’s passing in 2012.
Pat worked many years as a hair stylist, but thoroughly enjoyed retirement as she and Woody began spending their winters in Arizona or Florida, surrounded by many other snowbird friends. After Woody’s passing, Pat made new friends at Morningside Senior Living Center where she played cards, participated in myriad of activities, won a few spelling bees, and read the latest books and magazines.
Pat will be missed by family and friends alike, but knowing she and Woody are together again, gives much comfort.
If you’d like to remember Pat in some way, her family asks that in lieu of flowers you honor her memory by performing an act of kindness, smiling at a stranger, reading a book to a child or supporting someone in need. Pat would approve.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, but you may offer online condolences at www.preston-hanley.com
