Marquis Antwaun Rhymes

Marquis Antwaun Rhymes, 35, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2023. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 16, 1987, and raised on the southside of Phoenix. Marquis attended Carl Hayden High School and was a standout basketball and football player. He was a natural on the field and

was dubbed “The Beast” because of his intimidating physical performance. After High School, he went on to play football at Mesa Community College.

Marquis was a big guy, with a big heart and enjoyed life with laughter and a smile on his face. Nothing made him happier than when he was surrounded by his closest family and friends. With his enormous personality, he was a natural comedian and always the life of the party, cracking jokes. He also loved cooking and experimenting with different recipes in the kitchen. If you asked him, he would say he made the best BBQ.

Everyone who knew Marquis felt his big heart and giving nature. He was a loving, caring person who carried a light in him that showed when he stepped into any room. He wasn’t afraid to be authentically himself.

Marquis had an entrepreneurial spirit; his creativity and bright ideas led him to start a clothing line. His love for music led him to write hip hop lyrics and record rap in several studios around the valley. In his younger days, he also helped his family build and remodel houses. He later went on

to graduate from Gateway Community College as a certified Machinist and had a successful career as a CNC machinist for Modern Industries.

Marquis was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents Argie and Dora Rhymes; and close family Arniece Green, Terrance Green, Jordan Natt, Tranise Green, Terrance Green Jr., Daniel Green; Martin Rhymes, Suzann Rhymes, Ebonee Rhymes, Joshua Rhymes, Isaiah Rhymes; and Erica Parkes.

A visitation for Marquis will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at 2413 - Greenwood Memory Lawn Serenity Chapel, 719 North 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009. A service will occur Friday, February 24, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 2413 - Greenwood Memory Lawn Serenity, 719 North 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009. A final resting place will occur Friday, February 24, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at 0399 - Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 West Van Buren, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
