

Ernest “Ernie” W. Goldschmidt, 83, of Delray Beach, Florida (formally from Natick Massachusetts) passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017. Ernie was born on September 5, 1933 in Hannover, Germany to Paul & Ilse Goldschmidt. The three of them immigrated to the United States in November 1938 thus escaping Nazi oppression. Soon after arriving in New York, they settled in Brookline, Massachusetts. Ernie learned to speak English in kindergarten and attended public schools in Brookline where he was active in athletics, music and drama. He graduated from Brookline High School in 1951. After graduation, he served two years of active duty in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Rosalyn Goldberg on September 8, 1957 and they raised a family in the suburb of Natick, MA. They had two children, David and Susan. Their home was always a gathering place for family and friends. Ernie always had a passion for food where he owned and operated successful food service businesses including restaurants and commercial catering operations. After losing his wife Roz of 42 years to cancer, he decided to retire and move to Florida. After months into retirement he was introduced to Lorraine where he found love again. Ernie and Lorraine lived together at Gleneagles Country Club, in Delray Beach, FL where they played lots of golf and maintained an active social life. Ernie also volunteered his time and was an instrumental leader of the food and beverage committee for which the club membership were grateful. Ernie was a devoted family man who was delighted by the activities and accolades of his grand children, great grand children and his many nieces and nephews. Ernie was a loving and caring person who impacted many people. Ernie inherited from his parents a love of sports. He was an avid golfer and could be heard “cheering” for his hometown Boston sports teams. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Roz. He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Lorraine Burak, his son David and wife Kim Goldschmidt, his daughter Susan and husband Ken Nabal, his brother Frank and wife Roberta Goldschmidt, grandchildren Paul and wife Amy Goldschmidt, Adam Goldschmidt and fiancé Kylie Stanger, Robert Goldschmidt, Resa Nabal and Andrew Nabal and his great grandchildren Jake and Trent. Additionally, he is survived by Lorraine’s son Larry Burak, daughter Robin Stevens and their families plus numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. A celebration of Life/Reception will immediately follow.
