Seward of Miami, FL; sister Kathryn MacKay and her husband, Michael Plourde, of Hypoluxo, FL; sister Patricia A. Jordan and her husband, Wayne Jordan, of Deerfield Beach, FL; sister Lisa Kirwan and her husband Michael Kirwan of Oradell, NJ. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Joseph Seward II, his mother Kathryn Lois (Miller) Seward, and his brother Thomas J. Seward III. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Dustin MacKay, Maeve Kirwan, Ryan MacKay, Kevin Kirwan, Nicole Francescon Seward, Michael Kirwan, and grand dogs Duke, Titan, and Tipsy.
Greg was born on June 27th, 1956, in Bethlehem, PA. He grew up in Belle Mead, NJ, first attending The Hun School of Princeton and later graduating in the class of 1975 from Montgomery High School. He spent many summers as a lifeguard on the Jersey Shore and clamming the bay waters of Long Beach Island with his brother, Mike. In addition to summers on LBI, the family home in Belle Mead hosted many backyard basketball games with neighborhood friends. He was also a member of the Pike Brook Country Club swim team. As an older teenager, his love of motorcycles developed. He and his buddies enjoyed cruising the back roads of Montgomery Township (and who knows where else).
After high school, Greg headed west to Wyoming for three years, but returned to the northeast to attend Lehigh University, where his brother Mike was also a student. Greg and Mike were Fiji brothers together. He graduated in the Class of 1982 from the College of Business and Economics with a degree in Accounting. Greg began his long professional career as a CPA with Price Waterhouse in Houston, TX.
The focus of his career was in mutual fund accounting. He held several senior executive positions with various large national and international financial companies, including American Capital Asset Management, Avanti Health Systems, Inc, AIG, JP Morgan Chase, Franklin Templeton, and Citi. Greg was also on the Board of Directors of Key College in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Throughout his life, Greg had a strong passion for music and songwriting. This love amassed a collection of guitars, an entire discography of his original songs, and music-related artwork and memorabilia. Although he had so many favorite artists, he was especially fond of the Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Tom Petty.
His love for his children and family ran deep, bringing particular enjoyment to the annual family gatherings for the Lehigh/Lafayette football game and the annual Family & Friends week in Treasure Cay, Bahamas. His joy of music has been passed on to his kids, Cara & Greg. Many nights of sing-a-longs were spent on the back porch of his dad’s condo in Treasure Cay, joined by family and friends for repartee and merriment.
In recent years, Greg witnessed major accomplishments in his son’s and daughter’s lives.
In 2019, his son, Greg, followed in his footsteps graduating from Lehigh University, which ultimately led to his “dream job.” Cara was lucky enough to have her father walk her, not once, but twice down the aisle to marry Jason (both times!). His glowing smile during these moments told the story of a man who felt happy and blessed, but most of all, proud of his children.
The family plans to hold a springtime memorial service in the Lehigh Valley and will make an announcement on this page in the coming months.
