Blanche LaRue Killette Batten, 85, of Midlothian died Friday, May 10, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wilbert J. Batten; and her son, Steven J. Batten. She is survived by her children, Kathryn LaRue Batten and Wilbert Jerome “Jerry” Batten (Sherri); grandchildren, Karrington Culpin, Skylar, Christian and Mariah Batten.
Mrs. Batten was born in North Carolina and grew up in multiple places there before moving to Williamsburg then Richmond. While in Williamsburg Mrs. Batten was the secretary to the Dean of the Law School at William and Mary. She was a member of Grove Avenue Baptist Church for 20 years.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Hospice Community House for their exceptional care provided to Mother. In addition, we would like to extend gratitude to Tammi Thomas for her loving care and special friendship for Mother. We also wish to express our gratitude to the extended members of the Batten family for their many trips to Richmond to visit with Mother during her illness.
