After combating numerous illnesses compounded by her age-related maladies, Doris returned to her home on January 4 and was granted her eternal reward on January 31, 2025.
Doris was the only child of Ora Mae Weed-King and Floyd Eldridge. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 59 years – Charles J. Havel; as well as her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws: Frank and Junelle Havel; James and Blanche “Bea” Rihn; Joseph and Rose Mary Havel; nephews: Thomas Rihn and Donald Havel; nieces: Deborah Clare Havel, Karen Rihn-Chernow, and Jackie Havel-Roche.
She is survived by son Stephen “Steve” Havel, daughter-in-law Mary Kaznowski Havel, two grandsons she loved doting on: Mikhail and wife Madison Havel and Christian and wife Danielle Havel. She was also abundantly blessed with five great grandchildren: Katherine, Charles, Thomas, Samuel, and John. Other survivors include nephews: Darrell Havel, Dean Havel, Michael Havel, Patrick Havel, Thomas Havel, and Jonathon Havel and Dennis and his wife Elizabeth Havel; Nieces: Mary Kay Havel, Pamela Havel-Mosher and husband, Ned Mosher. Grand-nieces Alyssa Hedge, Jamaya James and Mia Pitts; grand-nephew Bryan Havel and great-grand nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Charlene Kaznowski our sister-in-law who put her love and retired nursing skills to work providing much needed and appreciated care and support for Mom and us.
An avid Spurs fan, gardener, quilter, and dedicated homemaker, Doris especially loved her faith and lived the Gospels. She was a long-time member of the KJT (Catholic Czech Fraternity) of Texas, St. Paul’s Nocturnal Adoration Society, longtime parishioner of St. Paul’s and St. Luke’s Catholic Churches in San Antonio and member of St. Peter the Apostle in Boerne since 2005. One of her darkest days was receiving a call from her priest in 2020, asking her not to come to Mass due to the pandemic. This was a shock given she had never missed Mass on a Sunday or Holy Days of Obligation since converting to Catholicism in 1952, unless hospitalized or gravely ill.
