

Virginia Elizabeth Blackard Moss “Ginny” born April 8, 1922 passed away on August 20, 2018. She was born in Omaha, a small town in Gallatin County, Illinois to Reece and Mary (Gregg) Blackard. She received her bachelor’s degree in English and teaching credential at University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana in 1940??. Prior to going to college she attended a summer English class at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where she met David Watson Moss. They were married February 1, 1944 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She resided in St Louis, MO; Tulsa, OK; Glastonbury CT; Lake Park, FL before moving to Saratoga CA in August 1961.
Ginny taught mostly Kindergarten and First Grade for more than 20 years in the Cupertino School District in San Jose area. After retirement, she and Dave moved to San Luis Obispo. Ginny moved to Los Gatos in 2011. She moved to Napa in March 2012. Ginny loved to play bridge and was in numerous bridge clubs throughout her life. She was a member of Valley of the Moon chapter of Quester’s International and participated in Newcomers, AAUW and Presbyterian Women’s groups.
Ginny loved to cook and host parties for families and friends always making you feel welcomed. Her home was often referred to as the Moss Bed and Breakfast. She had a wonderful dry wit and had something good to say about anyone she met. She also loved to tell stories about family. She was a lifetime learner and teacher. She loved to read and later in life listened to Talking Books when her sight was impaired.
Ginny is preceded by her husband of 60 years David Watson Moss, her eldest son David Jr and her youngest daughter Mary (Moss) Barth. She is survived by son, Walter “Gregg” & Sue Moss, daughter Sarah (Moss) Blackstone and 6 grandchildren Priscilla (Moss) & Steve Flocchini, Tacey (Moss) & Blair Auld, Watson and Julie (Schuster) Moss, Reece Blackstone, Griffin Barth and Casey & Caroline (Barth) Shepard and her 5 great grandchildren Sidny Elliott, Tyler & Connor Moss Flocchini, Gweneth Moss and Parker Shepard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church 1333 3rd St, Napa, CA. A reception will follow the service.
She was a member of The Questers, an organization with chapters in most states. From the organization's website, https://www.questers1944.org " Preservation and Restoration are twin tenets of The Questers Organization. Projects, selected by the chapters, are to preserve historical buildings, sites and artifacts for the community and the future." They give Scholarships and Fellowships to candidates that are pursuing careers related to preservation and restoration.
