Shirley Joan Higgin

Shirley Higgin entered peacefully into the Lords arms surrounded by her loving family on April 4, 2018. Born in Providence, RI in 1935 and a Spokane resident since 1954. She attended Whitworth College where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Record Technology and Masters in education. She worked at Valley General Hospital and taught at Spokane Community College until her retirement in 1997. She enjoyed her many friends at Manito United Methodist Church. Shirley has received numerous awards including the President’s award for Volunteer Service with the Spokane County Superior Court Guardianship Monitoring Program in 2000 and the AAIMA Educator Award. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Hazel Kirk of Spokane, sister, Dorothy and husband, Bernie Kaegi of Columbus, OH, her husband, Walter Higgin and son, Joseph Higgin. Shirley is survived by her son Scott (Carol) Higgin, sisters, Joyce (Raymond) Harris and Gail (Kirk) Dickson, numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2:30pm at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial to Hospice of Spokane, American Cancer Society or Manito United Methodist Church.
