He was born in East Bend, Forbush Township, Yadkin County, North Carolina on January 3, 1926.
John, known by his family as Milton and to friends as Ty, moved to Miami as an infant and later graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School. He married his beloved wife Nancy on December 23, 1960, and they raised their blended family in South Florida.
Ty served with the Army Air Corps in Texas during World War II. Back in Miami after the war, he continued his fascination with aircraft – Pan Am, National, American Airmotive, and Eastern, from where he retired in the late 1980s. Boat racing, boat building, and boat outings were his weekend passion for decades.
After Ty and Nancy were married, they and their friends spent many weekends boating and fishing all around South Florida. They also devoted many hours to the Miami Edison Over-the-Hill Gang, a multi-year class reunion group. After retirement, travels around the United States in their RV, bus tours and cruises filled much of their time.
Ty was predeceased by Nancy, his wife of 62 years, his daughter Penny Ludwig (David), and his grandson John Smith. He is survived by four children: Laura Tyson Smith (Bill), Timothy Wright (Judy Ware), Pamela Wright Foster (Jim), and Patricia Tyson Tapia (Roland). His grandchildren are Suzanne Ludwig, Ronnie Ludwig, Tristan Wright, Kyleigh Swanburg, Emily Wright, and Leslie Wright.
There is no service planned.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.turnerfuneralandcremation.com for the Tyson family.
