

Leonard A. Kutilek, 80, of Sherman, formerly of Springfield, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at his home. Leonard was born on November 3, 1925 in Cicero, the son of Anton and Mary Barbara Neuzil Kutilek. He married Georgiann Lukas on March 31, 1951 in Cicero. He was a WWII US Army/Air Force Veteran, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a graduate of St. Procopius Academy, St. Procopius College receiving a Bachelors Degree, now Illinois Benedictine University and DePaul University. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and Holy Name Society. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 364. Leonard was very artistic and enjoyed the arts, photography and gardening. He retired in 1988 from the State of Illinois Department of Public Health where he had been employed since 1967 as an administrator. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Celia Kutilek in 1988, his parents and one brother, John Kutilek. Leonard is survived by his wife, Georgiann Kutilek of Sherman; three sons: David (wife, Barbi) Kutilek of Morgan Hill, CA, Luke (wife, Barbara) Kutilek of Oakmont, PA and John (wife, Nancy) Kutilek of Encinitas, CA; five daughters: Mary (husband, Bruce) Cumming of Springfield, Leonore (husband, Tim) Voss of Kokomo, IN, Jeanne (husband, Jeff) Mullins of Saratoga, CA, Rose Kutilek of Springfield and Barb (husband, Steve) Crosby of Divide, CO; thirteen grandchildren: Sean (wife, Nicole) Mahoney, Shannon Mahoney, Sarah Voss, Andrew Voss, Jack Kutilek, Drew Kutilek, Paige Kutilek, Michael Kutilek, Emily Mullins, April Mullins, Hannah Crosby, Lukas Crosby and Anne Cumming; and one great grandchild, Aiden Mahoney and several nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 902 St. John’s Dr., Sherman with Rev. Msgr. Carl A. Kemme V.G. celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
