It is with profound grief and much love that the family of Joshua Fortin announces his passing on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Joshua will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Richard and Carolyn Fortin, and his only sibling, Rebecca Fortin. Josh was a cherished grandson of Robert (“Bob”) and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Fortin, late of Vernon, British Columbia, and Wayne Oliver and J.A. Barbara Mackenzie, late of Nelson, British Columbia. Josh is also survived by his calico cat, Abigail, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins across Canada and the United States.
Joshua was born on May 12, 1985, at Surrey Memorial Hospital on Mother’s Day, and was the best “first” Mother’s Day gift his mom ever received. Josh attended Cloverdale Elementary and Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary in Cloverdale, graduating in 2003. After secondary school, he attended Kwantlen Polytechnic University and graduated at the top of his class in Public Safety Communications Preparedness for 911 services. Josh was hired as an emergency 911 fire services operator based in Chilliwack, BC. He later joined his father’s company in the car business and had recently begun branching out on his own under the tutelage of his dad.
For years, Josh showed a keen interest in the history of the Church and was a firm believer in Jesus Christ, our Savior. He held many treasured biblical passages close to his heart, with one favorite tattooed on his arm.
The friendship and bond between Josh and his sister Rebecca were extraordinarily close. They were siblings, confidants, and best friends. Josh was also a supportive friend to many over the years, and even as friends dispersed worldwide, he maintained contact. In the lower mainland, Josh had a special friendship with Matt, Andrew, and Sarah.
Josh had many attributes, which included a witty sense of humour, kindness, history buff extraordinaire, and an avid consumer of information. He was the “go-to” tech guy for our family and others, and his helpfulness touched countless people over the years.
Our lives will never be the same without our Josh, but he will live on in the hearts of his loving family and friends.
“We know God hears the prayers of the broken-hearted. He will be our healer.”
A memorial service in honour of Josh will be held on June 27th, 2026 at 1:00pm at Victory Memorial Park.
Following the service, family and friends are warmly invited for a tea and light refreshments at the Fortin family home at 18135 19a Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia. Please come and share your fondest memories of Josh.
Our family wishes to give special thanks to all those who have supported us during this time of grief and loss.
