Robert O. Berard

Robert O. Berard, “Bob,” age 86, of Swansea, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Rosemary (Donnelly) Berard to whom he has been married for the past 63 years.

Born in Swansea, a son of the late Leo A. and Amanda (Gendreau) Berard, he was a lifelong resident of Swansea.

A graduate of Joseph Case High School, class of 1946, he worked as a Service Manager at Baker Tractor for many years before retiring in 1990. He served in the National Guard in the early 1950’s.

Well-known for being a gifted mechanic, he also had a green thumb and could grow anything. He kept a large orchard with many different kinds of fruit trees and enjoyed growing vegetables and sunflowers. After retirement one of his many hobbies included becoming a Bee Keeper. He enjoyed making and jarring his own honey.

He was the father of Robin Griffin of Plymouth, MA, the late Robert “Peter” Berard and Richard O. Berard of Swansea. He was the father-in-law of William Griffin and Dianne Berard, grandfather of Patrick and Molly Griffin, Dr. Geoffrey Berard and Amanda Berard, great-grandfather of Liam and Avery Griffin, and Peter Berard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Leo A. Berard, Jr.

His Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10:00AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at BIRCHCREST, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Dominic’s Church, 1277 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
