He went to the University of Texas on a football scholarship under Coach Darrell Royal. In 1959 he joined the Marines and served until 1962 at which time he became a police officer for the Deland Police Department.
He moved to Tallahassee in 1967 and served with the FSU Police Department and then as a TPD officer. Jack graduated FSU law school in 1973 and taught in the Criminal Justice Program at TCC until 1976. He joined the Leon County Sheriff's Office in 1977 as Chief of Detectives and Legal Advisor with the rank of Captain under Sheriff Ken Katsaris and led the task force that resulted in the arrest and conviction of Ted Bundy.
In 1981, Jack became an Assistant State Attorney in the 14th Judicial Circuit. He came back to Tallahassee and began prosecuting under Willie Meggs in the 2nd Judicial Circuit until his retirement in 2004.
Jack and his wife, Beth, had a passion for travel and enjoyed friendships all over the world.
He is survived by his wife, Beth B. White, daughter Stacey Lynn Poitinger, sister Janet Kauffman, brother James Poitinger.
He was predeceased by sisters, Janie Helmke and Joy Rickert.
The family will receive friends at 2pm on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home – Riggins Road Chapel. The Service will follow at 3pm.
