Martin J.P. Chicoine

Martin J.P Chicoine, 45, of Monticello, died on January 12th, 2020 unexpectedly due to heart complications. Born to Pierre and Micheline Chicoine, on April 5th, 1974 in Laval, Canada. Martin attended North Miami Beach Senior High School and graduated in 1992. His favorite subject was Shop and Ceramics, which speaks to the man who loved working with his hands.

Martin was an avid fisherman and worked on a charter boat in Miami, FL from the age of 13. He LOVED fishing with his entire being that some would be surprised to see him on land. His love for fishing was matched by his love for the City of Miami, and of course the Miami Dolphins. Martin had an incredible work ethic that he practiced throughout his entire life; during his time on the charter boat, he worked his way up to first mate. When relocating to Monticello, FL, he worked diligently on opening and operating “On The Other Side Lawn Care”, a local landscaping business. Martin lit up any room he stepped into and always made everyone feel as though they were family. He was a gentle soul and gave with all his heart. Martin would drop anything to help those he loved without any questions or complaints, but instead with a smile and a sense of complete safety and comfort by just having him in your life. If you were blessed to have known and been close to Martin, know that you are a very special human who has been touched by an angel.

As I mentioned his love for fishing and the Miami Dolphins, there was nothing Martin loved more than his family. Martin is survived by his mother Micheline Chicoine, his wife Candice Chicoine, his children Marty Chicoine, Mina Chicoine, Ava Mixon, Izzy Mixon, and Emma Mixon. In addition, he is survived by his sister Elaine Owens (Lloyd), his niece Kerri Petrone (Rafael), his nephew Casey Owens, and his great nieces Caroline and Grace Petrone. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Helene Ruest, his uncle Sylvain Ruest (France), cousins Genevieve and Marie-Eve Ruest and special friends we call family. He was preceded in death by his father Pierre Chicoine.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts forever.

Martin was a good friend back when he was just starting his family which always brought him such pride and joy. Being lucky enough to spend hundreds of days on the ocean fishing with him we became good friends .Even though the last 10 years we were thousand of miles apart we still talked and laughed when we caught up by a call every year. My prayers to his family and I look forward to fishing with him again one day 🙏

Martin was one of my best guy friends growing up. Once social media came along we were able to reconnect and pick up right where we left off. Whenever you came down to South Florid for a visit, you always made an effort to get in touch with me. You and the kids shared a Thanksgiving with me and my family and stayed at my house for our 20 year High School reunion. We stayed up and sat out by the pool just chatting away. I will always cherish our memories, conversations and friendship. Love ya forever Martin.

I knew Martin since middle school. He was one of the sweetest guys I knew and although we lost touch we both were happy to find each other through Facebook! We got to catch up and I was beyond happy for that. Heaven has truly gained a new angel. RIP Martin you will never be forgotten.

From knowing Elaine and her family, I know how beloved her brother was to her, and how deep his love was for his children, and his family.
I met Martin several times and he was always such a positive and welcoming presence, and soul.
My deepest condolences for this family's loss.
May your memories help console you all. 🙏🙏❤

Martin is a childhood friend, always filled with kindness. One of the last times I chatted with Martin was on FB messenger in 2016. My father had passed away & he sent such kind words. Sending warm hugs & strength to the entire family. Rest peacefully Martin.
