Jim was born in Kewanee, IL on March 4, 1959 the son of Sharon Martin. Jim attended West Aurora High School and went on to honorably serve our country in the US Army for four years. He served much of his time in Germany where he developed a love for the country, their culture, and yes, their beer. He was able to attend many concerts while there and cherished his memories and mementos of bands he saw there.
Jim met a feisty redheaded girl in 1984 who shared his love of fast cars and rock & roll. She was the love of his life. Jim married Amy in 1986. They spent the next 34 years happily married. The only thing Jim loved as much as Amy were their two children, Lauren & Jordan. Jim had an exceptionally close relationship with his kids, was very proud of them, and enjoyed nothing greater than spending time with them.
Jim was a gifted photographer, loved classic cars, rock music and sports. He loved Chicago sports teams but had an unending wealth of knowledge of all sports teams & athletes. He and Amy loved the desert life and spent as much time as they could exploring the southwest.
Jim is survived by his wife, Amy of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Lauren (Pete Soverns), West Lafayette, IN; son Jordan, Plano, IL; mother Sharon Martin, Seneca, IL; sister Janet Taylor; brother John Michael (Tammy Niefeldt) Martin; brother Jeff (Jennifer) Martin, Aurora, IL; sister Julie (Alex) Ardelean, Elkhart, IN; sister Charlotte (Bruce) Shyrock, IN; many nieces, nephews and great friends. He was preceded in death by stepson, Nicholas Giordano and maternal grandparents Jack and Ruby Simpson.
Jim was a kind and gentle soul who will be dearly missed. A celebration of life will be held in Illinois in late June. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Liver Foundation. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 20, 2020 at the Gary Sportsmen Club, 10101 Madison St, Crown Point, IN from 2:00-5:00pm, with a memorial service held at 3:00pm.
