Daniel S. Marlatt, 76, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2018 with family by his side after a courageous battle against cancer. Danny was born 7/4/42 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late John C. Marlatt, Sr. and the late Mary Gertrude Marlatt. After graduation, he served in the Marine Corps before marrying his beloved wife, Barbara, of 55 years. He retired as a truck driver for Union Oil of California after 24 years before moving to Port Orange, Florida to work for the Daytona Beach Post Office. In 2003 Danny retired to The Villages, Florida, where he could finally pursue fulltime the many activities he enjoyed, especially golf, bowling, shuffleboard, listening to “old time” country music, as well as a new pastime of playing cards and table games with friends.
His love of golf began when he started caddying at the age of eight in Howard County, Maryland. He regaled many with stories of his caddying experiences/incidents and characters he met during this young time of his life. Danny was very charismatic, as he was not only handsome, with his smile and those dimples, but also very adept at storytelling, keeping listeners captivated by his every word. There was never a lull in conversation with Danny around!
He met Barbara on a blind date (all because his friend, Frank, and Barbara’s friend, Ginny, could not go out one Saturday night because Frank’s car broke down and they lived over 20 miles from each other, which was a huge deal back in the 60’s,) so Frank found “wheels” and Ginny found a date for the “wheels.” Needless to say, Ginny & Frank parted ways soon after, but Barbara & “wheels” lasted for over 55 years! Kismet you think?
He was an incredibly sentimental and caring husband who I am missing beyond words. Danny was also an exemplary role model for his children and grandchildren both in every day living and spiritually.
We are so proud of his life spent over these 76 years and what a spiritual inspiration he was to all who knew him. Dan, please remember how much we all loved you.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Denson) Marlatt, children Dennis (Vicki) Marlatt, Marlene (Glenn) Haslam, and Kimberly (Todd) McNemar; Grandchildren Jeremy (Bridget), David, Andrew, Jennifer, Jason, Jamie, Reagan, Keeley, Liam and new Great Grandson's, Emerson and John. He is survived by his sisters Eileen (the late John Charles) Bieberich, Sr. Gretchen Marlatt, Christine (John) Scarzello and Mary (Edward) Hobbs, brothers, William Joseph and Patrick Marlatt. Dan is now reunited with his parents and the following siblings: sisters-Jacquelyn Ann, Catherine (Frank) Frey, Alma Jane (Ralph) Beam and brother-John C. Marlatt, Jr.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Danny’s name to Cornerstone Hospice at 2445 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, 7/30/18 at 8:30am at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church on Rte. 441, The Villages, FL. A final Funeral Mass with internment will be held at St Louis Catholic Church, in Clarksville, MD on 8/27/18 at 11:00am.
