Sandra Jean Glover passed away at The Villages Regional Hospital on the morning of February 4th, 2016. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a dear, true friend. Sandra, or Sissy as family affectionately knew her, was a real force to be reckoned with, a true independent spirit, and one of the strongest women you could ever know – the one you counted on in your time of need. Sis cared deeply for her family, her friends, and her community. Sandra Jean Glover was born on Sept 7th, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan to Ret. Major Leland J. Brillhart (dec.) and Doris Jean Bassett (dec.). As the first-born child of an Air Force family, Sandra dealt with her share of moving, attending schools in Missouri, Louisiana and Alabama before graduating from the American High School in Madrid, Spain. Soon after receiving her diploma, Sandra returned to the U.S., settling in Ephrata, Washington, where she lived from 1960 -1962. It wasn’t long before she moved to the Washington, D.C. area to be closer to her mother and her immediate family. During her career on Capitol Hill, she was a caseworker for Congressman Ed Forman and Congressman Marvin Esch. She also held secretarial positions for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Institute for Defense Analysis, and National Coal Association. From 1977-1984 she worked on the Department of Education and Labor Committee as an Administrative Assistant. In 1976, Sandra was blessed with a baby girl, Jennifer Doris. Sandra continued to work on Capitol Hill, balancing life as a dedicated career woman, single mother, loving sister, aunt and supportive daughter. In 1986, Sandra made the move to Florida to be closer to her mother. Once settled in Geneva, she worked for Cardinal Homes, and later for Seminole County as an assistant to the Commissioner before making the transition to the Seminole County Water Department where she retired in 2007. Sandra soon embraced retirement and moved to Lady Lake, Florida, where she was able to focus on the finer things in life … card games, good friends, cruises to exotic lands, golf carts, well-crafted novels, the occasional glass of champagne, and community service. In 2003, Sandra was blessed with the birth of her grandchild, Kendall Mary Cassidy. Kendall was the absolute light of her grandmother’s eye. As a mother, grandmother, friend, advocate and community spokesperson, Sandra truly found her passion in everyday life as a member of many organizations. As an American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Member, a Member of The Red Hat Society, and, true-to-form, as the Community Services Association Treasurer and Secretary of the Homeowners Association, Sis consistently helped, guided and led by example. But Sandra still made plenty of time for fun as the Singles Club President of the Villages at Water Oaks and, above all else, as a mother and grandmother. Our loss is heartbreaking. Our love is never-ending. Sandra is survived by her daughter Jennifer, granddaughter Kendall, brother Larry, sister Lori, brother Rusty and a slew of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Water Oak Country Club Main Clubhouse on Saturday, March 5th from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: American Legion Veterans Memorial Unit 347 PO Box 802 Lady Lake, Florida 32158
