Alfred Samuel Marsilio, 89, formerly of Hazleton, PA and Lutherville, MD, died peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Seasons Hospice in Baltimore, MD. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Patton) Marsilio who died April 20, 1995. Born in Hazleton, PA on September 3 1928, he was a son of the late Anthony and Louisa Marsilio. Known as “Freddie” he was raised in Hazleton and graduated from Hazleton High School with the Class of 1946. Immediately following high school he enlisted in the Army and served as a Sergeant with the 500th Detachment Quartermaster Service Company on Adak in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged in 1948.
Alfred earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Bloomsburg State Teachers College of Pennsylvania with the Class of 1952. While there he met Mary Elizabeth Patton of Wyalusing PA and they were married on August 8, 1953 in Hazleton.
After their wedding Freddie and “Liz” moved to Maryland to pursue teaching careers in the Baltimore County Public School system. Alfred, known as “Al” to his friends, earned his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Maryland in 1958. He would eventually become Assistant Principal of Towson High School, Principal of Dundalk Middle School, and was Principal of Perry Hall Middle School when he retired in 1990.
Throughout his life Al was an avid golfer and tennis player, and coached youth baseball and soccer. He and Liz were regular attendees at Baltimore Colts home games, and they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Al Marsilio was the Devoted Father of Laurie of Perry Hall, MD.; Alan and his wife, Paula Julian, of Manassas, VA., and Anthony and his wife, Lyn of Bristow, VA. Loving Grandfather of Claire and Kelley Rohrs, and Nicholas, Christopher, Grace, and Samuel Marsilio. Loving Great-Grandfather of Jessa Boston.
Family will receive friends at the Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley, Inc., 10 West Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093 on Friday July 6, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on July 7 at 10 a.m. Interment immediately following in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
